When you see the word "diner" you expect run of the mill things on the menu. But, The Lodge Diner is definitely a cut above a typical diner. New Orleans staples like jambalaya, gumbo, and shrimp poboy? I'm sure purists would argue that it's not as good as the genuine article, but I think what they present here is pretty great. The gumbo is thick and loaded with sausage and chicken. And, yes, you can taste the roux made from browning flour and oil in a pan. This was clearly prepared with great care. And, the shrimp poboy? With a roll this size, I would expect maybe six shrimp. They were double that many - seriously enough for 2 sandwiches - with the remoulade served on the side to avoid making the shrimp soggy. Excellent. My wife got the 6 ounce creole salmon with steamed rice. No spice to speak of, which suited her perfectly. Beautifully prepared. I get the impression that people don't take this seriously as a restaurant because of the location, but they should. I'm honestly thinking of making an excuse to go to the casino again, just so I can order another shrimp poboy.

Us 6 guys had our christmas night out at the casino and stopped and ate here. The pot roast was incredible as was the fish and chips. wait staff was freindly but a little lax on service. Of course gratuity was automatically addded in because there was 6 of us which was expected and noticed on the bill. Fisg and chips were really good but they could cut down on the fires and add in 1 more piece of fish would have made it much better. will come back!
